I've had my fair share of Hondas and I can vouch 110% for their durability, reliability, and practicality...so with that said, I was a bit weary of getting myself into a Trans Am with 98,000 miles. Needless to say, I don't regret it one bit. Its at a 108,000 miles now, and the only thing I've had to do was replace an oil pan gasket. Ta-da.

regular maintenence is very important. The way you drive your car also has a direct relationship with how often you will have to do that maintenence.

you must have bought a pos, i have 120k miles on everything and runs fine, only thing that i replaced is window motors, tranny and engine mounts, brakes, power rack n pinion, rear end bearings, rear main seal TWICE, oil pan gasket, a a few other things.

Talk about a major backfire!

And, no, I'm not talking about OP's backfiring car.

Oh well... Live and learn.

The OP must have bought a POS. Even my LT1 is running strong at 123k being 14 years old. I have a few maintenance issues, but they have nothing to do with the motor internally. Just needs some plug wires and an o2 sensor, which are routine maintenance items.

[QUOTE=MrElectric03;8654796]Yes the rearends cant hold up to high rpm launches, yes the cats get clogged(and were recalled by the way,got mine replaced two months ago for free by the dealer),yes the window motors go out, yes the top of the door panels crack.Did I miss anything? [quote]

-The rearends crap out even on A4's with no hard launching or wheel hop.
(Pinion seal leak due to pinion walking forward. Race and bearing pitted all to hell)
-Both headlight motors are prone to failure and gear stripping happens.
-Rear defroster doesn't last through the winter before the relay burns out. (replacement one 270 bucks... 10 bucks through the classified section)
-Paint has been known to bubble between the t-tops and the rear window.
-Fuel timing is running 14% rich for no known reason on my car as the motor is still stock.
-Had to replace all 4 o2's in 1 year.
-4th set of cats.
-3 cracks in driver's door pannel, 2 cracks in passenger pannel.
-Rear tail lights are not the same brightness. (one brighter than other)
-Needle bearings fall out of the rockers.
-Bent pushrods for unknown reasons.
-Power antenna's that make horrable noises and don't fully extend.
-Seized crank bearings appear to happen to a lot of members.
-Creeks, groans, squeaks and rattles.
-Rear hatch doesn't always release. (requires someone to pull up while popping the trunk)

Those are just the issues I've ran across in the last year and a bit of owning my car with 140,00km's (87,500miles)on the clock.

I still love my car, but the nickle and dime game just kills me.... and my income.

man you must of bought one that someone abused its whole life ive seen many on here going 150k+ with just regular maintenance issues o2 censors just small stuff it is true the rearend wont hold too long once you get into 350-400+ hp but if its just a weekend toy i doubt you ll have that many problems

I think it's pretty telling that Kelley Blue Book rates the reliability of these cars at 4.75 out of a possible 5. Yes, we know there are a few typical issues (e.g. window motors), but these cars are generally very reliable. If you've modded it out and you're beating on it all the time, that's a different story. These cars were built for normal street use, not extreme track duty. So if you're going to play, you're going to pay.

Sounds like you got a lemon. I have had mine for 2 years, i drive the **** out of it everyday and the only things i have replaced on my dd are tires, clutch once and a new battery. This is my second f-body and i have had nothing but minimal problems. Sorry you got a bad one, but that doesn't give you the right to disrespect an american legend! Go diss a 99 cobra, you want to talk about problems get yourself one of those!

You are alright with bolt ons on a ls1 but the cars are built for 325hp maybe 350. once you get over 400 and higher is when you start having alot of problems. Its like putting a 150 shot on a stock civic and expecting it to hold up spraying it every day, its not going to happen because it wasn't built to do that. If you upgrade any car you better be ready to pay for repairs.

I bought my 99 with 99k miles on it and everything worked. The only previous owner was a lady according to papers i found.

I had it for 3 weeks then went to the track.

Now the alternator isn't charging properly, the power steering rack is leaking, and the CD player spits discs out with ERR.

That's just what happens when you beat on a 100k mile car at the track, you find the weak spots (besides the CD). It'll get a new rack and alternator and go back to the track again, and whoop the crap out of reliable and practical Hondas.
