Default Damn

I recently wrecked my STS Trans Am, pretty sure it's totaled, awaiting word from my insurance.

This guy I know wrecked his Jeep a while back and totaled it, insurance covered his aftermarket CD player, should they cover my turbo kit and intercooler, and maybe the fuel injectors, given a receipt/documentation of purchase is provided?

If not, I figured that, and I better start looking for a GOOD deal on another fbody. If so, I have already found a few.

Thanks for any help.

how'd you do it?

depending on the deal you can work out, you can usually buy the car back for 20% of it's value...

i strongly recommend doing that and parting it out.

Being a dumbass, speeding when I was mad and thinking more then paying attention.

Definitely not buying the car back. Not my decision.

OK,... not sure what that means, but good luck.

your insurance will NOT pay for that stuff.

I work at insurance company, I used to handle claims. A/M parts like turbos & stuff like that could add to the value of your car. You will need documentation of what you have, when you bought it & who installed it. Find some cars listed on here that have similar mods, use that for comparisons & present them to your insurance company.

I've seen some pretty crazy total loss claims on some highly modified vehicles, the owners can come out real well on the settlements...

of course every insurance company is going to be a little different.

We have Allstate and they said they will not cover the individual parts, however, we will try to talk to them about how they upped the value of the car.

KBB says I should get about 12000 dollars, but I want at least 15000.

I always keep my receipts for either when I sell the car, or when its totaled. They wont completely cover the parts, but they may add value to it.

State Farm told me if the car is worth more than blue book retail you need to have it appraised (beofre it's totaled) and have aggreed valve coverage. Otherwise you will be lucky to get the 12k KBB says it worth and the 15k aint never gonna happen.

Yep when mine was stolen I did not have gap coverage and got on the high end of book value cause it was a low mileage car, but nothing for the mods. State farm here also. To their credit, they did pay quickly. I should have had my mods covered, so I can blame myself for that.

I doubt they will cover the value of the turbo and after market stuff in fact, if you tell them it had a turbo they may not cover you at all

Some insurance companies will ask if you have anything that adds value to the car when you ask for the plan. Right now mine is covered for $2000 in aftermarket stuff.

Why not just pull the kit off the car? They should let you do that.
