Default Cutout Question

If I get a cutout with stock headers and y-pipe, should I have a pipe welded in where my cat is? Or should I just place the cutout after the cat? Also will a cutout help me at all in hp/tq if placed a little before the muffler? And will I lose low end tq?

cut-out is welded in just before the pipe goes over the axle, there is a small indentation in that area that is perfect for cut-out placement.

yes a cutout will give you a little more in the way of hp/tq, from what i've seen an increase of 8-12rwhp with a stock muffler if you already have an aftermarket muffler, only thing a cut-out will do is make your car louder.

You'll lose some lowend torque, hardly noticeable at all really, especially with that LT1.

what do you mean big time stealth? b/c when i put my cut out on before muffler and after cat. it was still loud as hell. so cutout open does not = stealth and when its closed there is no performance advantage.

I think he is saying that people will see/hear your stock exhaust system and think your a pushover. Then you open up the cutout and rape em'.

Also I I have 2OTL with an slp muffler I'm pretty sure. Whatever came on a 95 Firehawk. Also, should I put a pipe in the place of my cat and have the cutout in that pipe? Or should I put a pipe there and place the cutout in that crease where you were talking about? Or should I leave cat and place cutout in that crease? I'm not sure which sound I will like better please give me some suggestions and maybe sound clips if anyone has one. Thanks.

At idle a cut out is quiet, but obviously not at WOT. Put it right in the piece of straight pipe under the rear passengers side.

best placement for the cutout is where i suggested and the most common for cut-out owners. Since you have a firehawk, im sure you have the SLP 2OTL exhaust, so all a cutout will do is give you a much louder exhaust note, and prolly open up the topend just a wee bit more.

Removing the cats with a cutout is not going to sound good at all, especially with stock manifolds, sounds like pure crap. I did that with my 96 LT1, i had Stock manifolds, cutout, B&B muffler and NO cats, with the cutout closed/capped it sounded good through the B&B. But once i uncapped it, sounded like trash, WAY too loud. NOT practical at all by any means IMO.

I have a cutout and its annoying as hell at cruiseing speed like on the highway around 75-80. I get alot of drone in the car but other then that its ok. Im still on stock headers, ypipe witha flow master muffler so when its capped it sounds ok and pretty quiet. Im doing Lts and a ORY soon so im not sure if il be keeping my cutout since it will be very loud I assume so I may be switching up to a borla catback and keep a lid on it to keep it somewhat quiet but other then that it doesnt sound to bad but I do get the drone which sucks....

Mine is also right under the right rear seat. It tucks under perfectly.

As long as you don't hammer it around cops it's pretty quite- had one following me today for awhile with my cut-out open.

Ive been real lucky with cops ive been stopped a few times but they never questioned it since the car at idle is pretty quiet. I did hammer it in front of a few cops on accident 1 time but they were busy and didnt seem to care since out where I live there are way more old trucks with just straight pipes that are way louder then me so they dont care to much
