Window motor = NO FUN!
Well, I tackeled the window motor on the drivers side today. Let me say that I have had more enjoyable afternoons. I wasn't aware that i needed a drill, so i had to run to walmart twice, (the second time to return the 7.5 Volt for the 18 Volt). Oh well, its done now and took about 3 hours. I bet I could do it again in about 30-45 minutes though. Anyone else find it strange that the motors are riveted in, instead of bolted? What was GM thinking?

Yeah first time takes longer. Going to replace my passenger side again because it's noisey going up and don't want it to die while down. Already drilled so shouldn't take that long, and replacing the blown door speaker too while the panel is off.

+1: I actually got the drill holes right the first time. That webpage really helped. The only issue now is that it won't go ALL the way up. I mean it goes up for the most part, but leaves that last little bit (literially a millimeter). Is there a way to fix that. Right now i just have to pull it up with my hand to make sure it creates a seal so water won't leak in.

Yeah I did it with the drill the 2nd time. Try doing it without going throug the door.
Took damn near 5 hours to remove the entire assembly through the access panels and put everything back together.
Remeber the window worked until NOW. GM did that thinking they would not need to maintenance it before your warranty was up. They won that gamble and secondly rivets are quicker and cheaper during the assembly process.
Again, its a business decision.

window leaking
From my experience when you replace the window motor and rivet it all back to the fiberglass door it does not go exactly back in the same spot so it will leave a little crack that will create wind noise and leaks.Thats what mine did.You can also see it move around if you take the door panel back off and watch the rivets.Sucks like hell!!!!

I just did mine a little over a week ago. It wasn't bad. The most annoying part was getting the plastic part off around the door handle. I could probably do it in about a half hour now too. I used that same writeup also. If felt nice saving $300 on something stupid like that.
