4700 is not bad. It wont get much cheaper unless the car has problems. If it is in good running condition thats not a bad price. Like said earlier the tranny is most likely getting tired. But at that price you could get a built tranny and bottom end and still have around 10k total invested. 4700/car and 5k/mods. I say do it.

Well lets see. I have $2500 in a 85,000 mile 2001 roller, and another $2500 in a complete 2001 LS1 with 81,000 miles. Still need a few odds and ends here and there but the way I look at it is this, I'm buying something fun to do, not just a car.
