NGK plug question
well i went out to get some new plugs today after finally getting the car back on the road... and i went to advance auto to get some ngk tr-55 plugs... and he brought them out and i bought them without lookin over them cuz i was in a hurry and figured they were right... and i got home to just check them out, and they gave me tr-5 plugs instead of tr-55... so is there a difference in the two plugs besides the gapping? because i looked on the internet to see if i could tell any difference, and the only thing i saw was that the tr-5 was gapped at .035 and the tr-55 was gapped at .050... so do i need to take these back for the others or what? from what i read the heat range was the same for both... but the lengths are different and something about a gasket type of plug for dart heads??? but will these work the same as a tr-55 if i change the gap?

k yeah i went back and took those back... and my god i cant believe how much of a difference it made... my bosch plugs were totally messed up after 2 months... 1 of the plugs was so bad the ceramic was falling off and only a little bit of it was left... and about 3 of them were fouled... but my car is finally running like it should be for the first time since ive had the car
im pretty well jacked... and ill throw this out there... NGK plugs rock the socks off of bosch platinums...

Pretty much everyone in the world with one of these cars/engines will confirm that!!
Although the Delco Iridiums (originally designed and manufactured by NGK) as well as the actual NGK Iridiums are not bad on a stock/bolt on/NA car.

When I knew nothing about plugs... I put Bosch Platinum +4s in my SS... and they went about 80k miles and still looked good when I pulled them. I noticed no difference when I swapped them out for TR-55 Iridiums, but that's what I use now.

thats just the gap that are "supposed" to have out of the box. i bought two boxes once and one set was gapped at .050 and the other was at .016. that is why i always gap my plugs. id gap a N/A car plug at like .040 and nitrous at .035".
i run autolite AR103 for a nitrous car, and its a 150 dry. any higher and id go one more heat range colder

yeah i gapped my tr-55's at .044... i read somewhere that that was what was the optimal performance for those plugs on a stock motor basically... i think it was their website or somethin... but i just had the old bosch platinums in my car.... not the +4 or anything like that.. but i will never again put bosch plugs in my cars or trucks unless i read something good about them from a ford forum or something like that (for my f150)... this is literally the first time since ive owned this car that it has ran like it is supposed to... ive always had problems with either missing or backfiring because of the opti going bad and then the plugs being bad and wires and coil and all other kinds of things... and now i am really pleased... and i think i am finally ready to put the performance parts on instead of fixing the car up to make it just go down the road, let alone be able to get on it...
it was well worth staying up 40 hours for lol... we worked on putting plugs in the car from about 2 am to 730 am... then had to put brake pads on the truck and wash a cadillac sts for someone... so basically my day was filled with vehicles lol... but its running so well that my dad went from wanting me to sell it to him running the ***** off of it doin about 90 on the highway with me in it, and he was just smilin the whole time haha

it just bugged me about my bosch plugs that were in my car for two months... i just couldnt believe the condition they were in after only that little amount of driving time... they were just the bosch platinums... not the +4 or anything like that... but it was just crazy that the ceramic was just falling off of some of the plugs and they just seemed to be made cheaply or something... i know none of them were dropped or anything either because me and a friend put them in and they were never dropped...

My gap spec is .060 in the owners manual. I have TR55's with the out of the box gap of .055 in both of my cars.
