i honestly never really understood comparing miles per tank, or cost per fillup, because you aren't putting in the exact same amount every time, somedays you fill up at 1/4, some days 1/8, etc, mpg is the only thing i really see a point in keeping track of, speaking of which, i get between 19 and 21 mpg, 30/70 city/highway, with a lot of spirited driving, and that equates to about 250-280 miles per tank (i have an m6 though) and on straight highway driving i have gotten around 300 miles to a tank, and on one trip averaged 29.4 mpg over 3 hours cruising around 70-80 mph

I agree.
MPG is the true measure of what mileage you get, miles per tank can vary everytime, unless you fill it up at EXACTLY the same time every time.
You can ask five different people miles per tank, and get five different answers, becasue everyone fills at different times.
I live in RI an work in MA. Gas is cheaper in MA, so unless I absolutely have to, I won't get gas in RI. So, I have to plan my fillups so I can get to MA to gas up.
Sometimes I'll have enough gas to get home, but not back to work again, so I'll only get 270 miles that tank. Others I'll time it just right, and am able to make it back to work the next day, so in that case I'll get 300-ish miles per tank.

What is really pretty scary on this thread is how many people fill up when the tank is completely empty. You guys do know that the fuel pump uses the fuel itself to coll the pump so if you drive until there is almost nothing left that means there is almost nothing to keep the pump cool as well.

Stock '02 T/A, A4-2.73; I always run 93 octane; 2/3 city and 1/3 hwy driving:
E10 gas = 260-270 miles to the tankfull
Non-E10 gas (becoming extinct here in Tampa) = 300-330 miles

I calculate the mpg the correct way by only filling up untill the pump shuts off. I used the same gas pumps most of the time also to ensure the nosle is the same and I get fill up to the same level. With my mixed driving habbits I get "around" 18mpg which is "around" 250 miles per tank. I bet I could get more if I stayed on the highway full time. Also, keep in mind its still not that warm up here in CT and I believe they put a winter mix in the gas which dosent help!
I would have to say 250 miles per tank and 18mpg is totally normal and healthy for an a-4 car.
