Default Do I need a tune?

Just put on off road headers and y-pipe. Also took off my air pump. Seems to be running rich from the smell of things. Do i need a tune or is it just the addition of the headers.

Get it tuned. You wont get the full potential of the headers and y-pipe without one.

It's a subjective matter, and pretty much luck of the draw. Some of these cars gain beautifully without, while others don't gain a damn unless they're adjusted. Mine in particular didn't gain anything, and needs a tune something awful. I just can't see getting a tune until I have something else to put on there with it, like I stall or something.

Take her to the track and see if you've made more than minimal gains

Tune it.. have the AIR codes tuned out, and see what kind of power you make. Youd be suprised at the difference in power, and even driveability. My 02 is basically a lid, catback and gears.. It ran strong, no issues. The speedo was off, and i was looking at my options.. Ended up going to Synergy for a full dyno tune, and the car pulls harder (Gained 17rwhp) it drives different, in a good way.. I believe the mileage has improved slightly.

As for the cost of the tune, i cant speak for every tuner, but i know some places charge you say 500.00 for the first tune, but for revisions, sometimes will only charge you dyno time.. Say you change up your mods, and it only takes an hour or less to retune, you only pay, maybe 100.00 for example.

yes but waiting for more mods might be a good idea if you plan on doing some soon

Got a cam swap going on soon? Wait to get a tune. Got a stall going in? (Assuming you're an A4.) Wait to get a tune. LS6 intake? Wait to get a tune. If already have a LS6 intake and are done with your bolt ons and not going to cam it or H/C, then get one now.

Tune it! I thought my car was running rich because that seemed to be the consensus on here after you do LT's, turns out my car was running really lean!! I gained 32Hp/20Tq from a dyno tune, well worth the money.

Pretty much follow this advise and you'll be in good shape. I drove with LT's and had the car untuned for a year and a half. After I added an LS6 intake and removed AIR and EGR I went had the car tuned, because I knew I was about done with bolt-ons for awhile and a cam is still a year or two out there on my radar.
