I took a case of 44's from parts when i bought my car and I change the oil once every spring wheither it needs it or not. Being that the car is 6 years old and there are 12 in a case i have 6 left but I took a case of 46's too I have yet to open.

k&n filter Castrol 10-40. i would stay away from royal purple it breaks down fast, good for a straight race car but bad for a street car. royal purple is the reason i have a 383, that **** caused my stock bottom end to spin a rod bearing at 2800 miles after i changed the oil.

i use mobil 1 filter and oil, if its good enough for the z06 and MANY other powerhouses out there than its good for my little 102,000 mile daily driven ta lol. the royal purple debate will go back and forth with many people both for/against it. My buddy put it in his m3 and the very next day went to a little auto x event that goes on around here aparently it got a little too hot and broke down too much he started getting lifter ticks and taps, he changed the oil to what ever bmw dealers use on the spot and all the noises went away. just from that i'll stick with my mobil 1 it's done good for 102,000miles of abuse and hopefully will continue for many more.

Im not trying to start anything here, but in one of my classes I took at my college, we cut open just about every brand of oil filters, everyone knocks on Fram but they are just as good as any other filter.

can you list the filters you cut open? i know fram is basically like a coffee stainer and k&n, Napa Gold, and mobil one's all look almost like a fuel filter i was always told the best oil filter out there was the napa golds because they're cheap and they're quality is right there with the k&n's. on other hand i do like the k&n filters with the nut on the bottom for removal lol.

always use Ac Delco. But i got a coupon for a free K&N so im going to try that for this years oil change. I only change my oil once a year. I only put 2-3k miles a year on the car so i just remember to change it around my b-day. Dont right the miles down or anything. So much easier

what criteria did you base the comparison on?

the biggest problem I heard about Fram is them actually coming apart sometimes, but I also hear a lot about them not filtering as well

Napa Gold are wix filters in a different box...cheap as Fram but no "rumors" of quality issues, so that's what I've been using

as far as RP being bad, I ran it in my 350 for years with 7-10k mile oil changes and several times it was still mostly purple instead of black on draining, never saw any ill effects

I had a slight bit of noise on startup from main bearings before I switched from regular old Valvoline and it never got any worse with the RP than the dino Valvoline

Was using Bosch, but recently switched to K&N. Definately a difference in pressure. Filters a bit better too. As far as oil, I was using mobil 5w30 but also recently switched out to Valvoline max life, as the bird has gone up quite a bit in mileage. So far so good.
