Looked like it was layin a wicked patch, Nice!!!
Sounded like it was boging down a little at the top of the gear, You might try to keep it in a lower gear and feather the throttle a little to maintain tire speed. This will do a couple things for you, The transmission will not change gears back and forth and with higher tire speeds you will have less chance of it hooking and breaking anything when it up shifts and bogs down.

Another thing to keep in mind is, when you really are craving spinning the tires but don't want to stress the car out, go find wet or slick pavement. Donuts on wet pavement significantly decreases the amount of stress it exerts on the drivetrain.
