Default Noob with questions

I'm thinking about getting a WS6(1998+) but the only thing that is really scaring me away from the fact is the rear end. All I ever read about is the stock rear end braking and the only other options are the 2500$+ ones? Are the stock 10 bolts pretty common/cheap to find? I'm from so.cal btw. I plan on just keeping it near stock for a while if i do get one. Also is the LS1 engine really reliable? I plan on driving it daily. All the other cars ive owned were japanese and im either thinking about ws6 or a s2000. Thanks guys!

Don't worry about it. It will stand up to plenty of abuse unless you are making significantly more power than stock. Also if you get an A4 it will last even longer. If it breaks your best options are either a 9" or 12 bolt which could easily run you $2500+. However cheap used stock 10 bolts can be found pretty easily. To your second question, LS1s are very reliable when taken care of. There are plenty of people daily driving highly modded 150k+ mile cars on here.

The rear end does break alot, but most if the time it is on modded cars with sticky tires. Clutch dumps with sticky tires will really do the 10 bolt in. If you get a ws6 with an A4 they dont break the rear end as often.

As far as reliable, I think they are really reliable as long as you keep the maintenance up. Just like any other car. My car has 135,000 on it, and I have put 35,000 on it in one year. Only problem I had was from improper gear installation caused my rear end to lock up.

as far as the rear goes with an A4 there isnt much of a problem because the tranny takes most of the shock off of the rear...but if a M6 is in your future stay away from the sticky tires and wheel hop....

as far as reliability goes there are some high mileage LS1s out there still running awesome times and being sprayed daily...dont worry about the LS1 as long as it has been maintained you should be ok...

my sudgestion on all of it is to buy a well taken care of WS6 with a 9 or 12 bolt already installed....it shouldnt be hard to find in the for sale section on this site!

Unless you have an M6 and are dumping the clutch and you have some suspension mods so all that force is being transferred to the rear end you have nothing to worry about.
