Default when looking for an LSbase engine what applications

Hey guys I am new to the LS world and I am thinking of just jumping right in.

So when looking for a LS-based engine what applications do I look for (make, model and years)?

For a hybrid 68 Chevelle which would be a better donor 1-a car or 2-a truck?
Thanks for your help.

my opinion is a 6.0 iron block from a 2500 truck, for that car and i think it would be one of the cheaper ways to go.

6.0 would be a good way to go.

ideal is a vette lsx, but it will cost more...

5.3/6.0 truck intakes are hideous to me, but if you don't care about that and don't have hood clearance that might be a good way to go, or you could get the tensioner relocation bracket to mount a car intake on it

Can't you use an LS6 intake on the LQ4/9?

Yes! All the 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L, 6.0L use the same heads, so the intake from any of these will botl up to any other.

To the original poster, any truck from late 2001 and newer is a good doner. Any passenger car from 1998 and newer is a good option.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info guys.

BTW the goal is to eventually strap a turbo on to it. But NOT looking to set any speed records just reliable DDing and tire smoking fun.

yes but you have to change front drive accessories including water pump or relocate the belt tensioner

the truck stuff will have clearance issues with a car intake stock
