Default Coolant leak/Radiator question!!

Ok first off I need some help finding where this coolant leak is coming from. It is a pretty decent leak meaning if i sit in one spot there will be a puddle about the size of a softball or bigger under the car. It is dripping from the front/middle area of the passenger side of the oil pan. I can't tell where it is exactly coming from but im thinking it may be the gasket on the water pump. I know it isnt the little coolant tubes under the intake manifold so this seems like it is the only other place that it could be coming from.

Also on my radiator in place of the little coolant level sensor i put a rubber plug that you can tighten to make it expand and I am wondering if that is going to hold up or what can i do instead of that plug to keep it from leaking. I don't want to buy a sensor for it because i cant even use the sensor because i swapped an ls1 into my v6 camaro and it doesn't have an electrical plug for that sensor on the body harness.

I'm probably going to replace the water pump gaskets tomorrow to see if that fixes it but if not then i will need some help finding where the leak is coming from. Is there any other place where the coolant could be leaking from on that side of the car in that area?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks!

If its in the middle of the oil pan thats probly going to be a head gasket. Is the block wet under the heads? If the timing cover and crank pully are wet thats going to be you're water pump gaskets. I would get some brake cleaner and try to clean as much as possible and just wait and watch under the car for it to start running out. If you have soft ball sized leaks it should be easy to spot.

Ok well im pretty sure it my head gasket because i can see bubbling and spitting on the head gasket right under my number 2 cylinder spark plug

Im going to try and retorque the bolts and see if that helps...if not then I guess im going to have to do a head/cam swap

Some times you luck out and it doesnt get in the oil. If the bolts are tight get some new head gaskets. A head and cam will definetly help you feel beter about this situation. How many miles are on your engine? Might want to consider changing the lifters/trays while your in there.

Well as far as i know 26k miles....but you never know when you buy off internet from someone

In a way he kind of screwed me over already...for some reason the rocker arms didnt have the pedestals on both sides which is a very random part to be missing

It came with all accessories and everything to bolt up and run except for the rocker pedastals and it was only $1800 with "26k" on it so it was a decent deal i thought

Also what can i use to plug the hole where the coolant level sensor goes on the radiator...i dont want to buy a $80 part that i wont even be using as a sensor

the rubber plug that i have in it is leaking so that obviously isnt going to work. its one of those plugs that you tighten and the rubber piece expands

Best thing I can tell you is to buy a new sensor from local auto parts store. I put an expandable freeze plug in mine for about a week then bought a new sensor for $40. It will come with a new metal clip. I dont trust those freeze plugs as I have seen them come out before. If it happens at the track, Boom, right into the wall. $40 is pretty good insurance IMO.

Do a Coolant system pressure test it will be a lot easier to spot. If you can get it (probably not cheap) throw some dye in the coolant and start waving the ir light around.

I definately know its the head gasket...but im hoping that is the only thing wrong with it. I hope nothing is cracked or anything on the block but im pretty sure its just the gasket because you can see it clearly coming out of the gasket

Thanks for all the help guys

Are the rockers stock. You would also have to put shorter push rods in. I cant believe the valve train didn't destroy it self.

Yes the rockers are stock. I was only able to start it for like a min at max and new something was messed up so i figured it was something to do with wiring at first but when i popped the valve covers I saw it had no pedastals....What size pushrods do i need??? I wouldn't think you have to change the pushrods since the heads are only like .030 shorter than stock ls1 heads. I think

Ya thats messed up not having the rocker pedastals. 7.4" is the stock length. Best thing to do is buy a push rod length tool. since your heads are shaved. They sell a 7.35" and shorter push rod.
