Default Switching Keys/Ignition

Ok so I have a 2000 V6 Camaro wrecked. I was wondering how hard it would be to take the ignition where they key goes and the door locks, and swap them over to my 99 TA. The guy I had gotten the car from is not mailing my keys to me like he said and Im kinda worried since Ive been reading about cars being stolen.

The wreck does have VATS on the key and all that.

im not sure if you can just swap the ignition switch.. i would think there might be an issue with the vats...

You may be able to do the swap on a few conditions, your vehicle has to have VATS or you have to get a PCM and program it to accept VATS. and second just find that guy and get ur damn keys...

You have two choices:

A: Swap out for another VATS lock cylinder and force the PCM and BCM to relearn. Not too hard...

B: Swap out for another VATS lock cylinder and program the PCM to ignore the BCM when it complains you didn't insert the right key.

Stick a new key in with the correct cut. Turn the car on and leave it on for 10 min. Turn it off and leave it off for 10 minutes. Repeat the cycle for 4-5 times and eventually it will fire right up. It will seem like it will never work but it will.

You may need a battery charger and a couple of beers.

GM does it that way to ensure someone can't just cut the same key and steal the car in a couple of seconds. The modules will refuse to relearn until they trade messages numerous times. Enough to where there is little chance someone can do this to steal the car and not get noticed.
