I see you're already warmed up and at idle, thats not bad really. How old is your oil?

Is it like that on cold start-up too?

While cruising at say 45mph, is the pressure a little higher than that?

As long as you have pressure, you're good. And these gauges aren't the best either.

New Mobil 1

No, around 40ish on the gauge.

That's good to hear!

Should I consider replacing oil pressure sending unit?

As a footnote, the car sounds great and pulls hard. I've checked the oil and it's clean with no metal shavings.....

Yes, it's around usually around 40, give or take.

That sucks. I really don't want to end up with a blown motor.........

I would cut open your oil filter to make sure your bearings aren't being chewed up.......If it was my car I would replace oil sender and oil pump if necessary.

At highway speed, the guage reads around 40.

hmmmmm.......I honestly don't know.....maybe it's fine for having that many miles......but if it was mine, I would replace oil pump and sender for peace of mind.......I would feel alot better with oil pressure at 40psi at warm idle

Run a mechanical gauge and get exact readings. If they still suck, start looking into it further(new oil pump and internal engine work).

The Mobil 1 by itself will drop your oil pressure, its thinner. If you're at 40 psi while you're cruising, you can't ask for anything better than that. Also, if you're at 40 psi on cold start-up when idling, thats GREAT!

As said though, it can't hurt to cut open a filter, but you are just fine.

One thing I would do, like "samson 420" said, get a true reading with a different gauge, that'll give you piece of mind. Its probably gonna read the same because its Mobil 1 synthetic.

Right now it's got Mobil1 5w30.

try a full synthetic. mobil 1 isnt full anymore even though the bottle says it is. mobil 1 tends to thin alot when hot
