Default rearend WOT "snap" sound

whenever I go WOT when I shift gears I get a loud "snapping" sound from the rear of my car. Right when the car shifts I hear a loud "snap." It sounds like someone just clapped right behind me in the backseat. Any idea what this could be? It is only on WOT shifts and car is an a4

thanks

I get that too. Have you recently had anything done to the rear or to the suspension?

If its a 1999 or older chances are the car has an auburn posi. If it has an auburn posi the spider gears wear down and they actualy will jump a tooth. If you pull the inspection cover off and clean out the posi with brake cleaner and inspect the spider gears you will see that one or two of the edges of the gears may not come to a sharp corner like the rest of them, they could be rounded or chipped, if they slip they will give off a snappin, cracking, poping rice crispies... sound. Auburn makes, or used to make, spider gear replacement kits with cup washers for just this. They are simple to change, posi stays in the car, you just remove the cross pin, push out the axles and take the spider gears out.

Just some ideas. Check your transmission crossmember and ensure that it's secured. Also check the tq. arm. It might be hitting something during the shift's.
