Default spark plug gap

I bought all new AC Delco spark plugs and they were gapped at .40... what is the stock 98 gap supposed to be, i read somewhere that it is .60 but that is not certain. The gaps are in there right now at .40 would this cause my car to misfire? and do i need to go ahead and set them closer to .60. It has been running poorly at idle with misfire and im trying to fix this... all the plugs wires are tight. thanks in advance

Yeah I just asked the same thing, stock gap at that time was .60, but I keep seeing people running smaller gaps and heard that they changed it on the later years... Anyone have some solid info on this?

I would shoot for .055 or .060

Too small of a gap WONT cause your car to misfire. It may cause it to have less power and gas mileage, but it wont misfire because of it. I would set it to the factory GM setting of .060. The larger the spark you have the better chance you have of burning ALL of the air/fuel mixture and getting the most out of each cylinder.

what else could cause the misfire? o2s? it sounds like a clicking sound every time... a shop said that it would be the wires if you could hear it from the engine, if it was the plugs you wouldnt be able to hear it from the engine
