Default Air bag light - WTF?

While driving my 99 F-body this weekend, my air bag light went on in the dash and stayed that way until I shut the car off.

After letting it sit 20 minutes I started it again and the light went off.

What is this about; the car has not been in an accident and the air bags have not been messed with ever.

Thanks...

a connection probably went loose somewhere and cause the light to come on usually lights up when the system fails it's test or it was grounded somewhere... to tell you the truth i would rather go get it checked out by a certified shop like a chevy dealer than do it yourself... what's a couple hundred bucks or less when you have peace of mind... personally i wouldn't rely on help over a forum for this type of scenario just my .02

Anytime that light stays on that means your airbag will more than likely not deploy in an emergency situation.

If this happens multiple times please seek some sort of resolution.

If I recall correctly, the light stays on and the system deactivates when you fail the SIR Diagnostic at start-up. (Re-starting the car would run another diagnostic.)

You may want to get your codes scanned. If you failed the diagnostic, the car should be storing a SIR code corresponding to the specific failure.
