ses engine code question
my z is throwing 3 codes they are p0171,p0174,p1415 basically what it comes down to is its saying my car is running too lean on both the left and right side.. any suggestions on how to fix this problem????
With your car being pretty much stock, my guess would be that the o2 sensors are probably needing to be changed. How many miles to you have on the car?
Before I got my LT's put on, I had a couple of codes pop up showing cylinders were running lean. I then changed the oxygen sensors and that fixed the problem quickly.

yeah man, my car had about 45,000 miles on it when they took a dump on me. I just replaced the 2 sensors before the cats. My codes were showing for both banks also, that is why I changed the sensors on both sides.

Have you done any recent work on the exhaust or did the codes just start coming out of nowhere?
Well if the codes just started without you doing anything new then I am inclined to agree with the others that suggest your O2 sensors are the problem. If you have an air leak you should be able to hear it as a loud tapping type noise around the AIR pump. Sometimes the gasket on the pump where the tube goes on blows, but you should hear an obvious noise there.
ill take a listen when i get home and see if i hear anything.. if not then it prob is the 02's. and if its the o2's then im just gonna wait it out and get my headers and ory and get a tune done so they erase the o2's. but thanx for all the advise guys!
Does your car have the air injection on it (cali emissions, extra stuff plugging into you exhaust manifold)? i was tossing that code for a while and i had a stuck valve, the good part is that GM has to replace it they warrenty there emissions for 100,000 miles.
I'd look at the O2 sensors last honestly. When you have lean codes the first things to check for are vacuum leaks and a dirty MAF sensor. To check for vacuum leaks get some carb cleaner and spray it on and around any vacuum lines, especially the PCV line, and listen for a change in idle. People post on here all the times with lean codes and it is usually a vacuum leak.
