Default oil gauge

Just wondering if this was normal. when I have a cold start the oil pressure is around 40, but when it's warmed up and i've been driving for about 30 mins, say on the highway, it will be around 20-23 at idle. it doesn't drop below 20 and it always rises when i accelerate. When cruising at 60 the pressure is around 38-40. It's a 98 with 87,500 miles on it.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

That is normal. When you punch it the car will probably hit 60 psi, which is a good thing.

Good lookin then. I was reading some other threads about this but didn't really straight forward answer the question. Thanks a lot guys. The only other thing is the need twitches whenever it's around 20 but other than that it's rock solid. I'm guessing this is ok since it's always done that since i bought it 5 months ago.

A drop in oil pressure would mean the oil has thinned out some and is now more appropriate for lubricating your rotating parts. A higher pressure means there is not enough flow due to increased viscosity or not enough area to flow through due to increased oil pump speed.

higher Pressure does not always mean more lubrication
