Service light on, then off?

Service light on, then off?

So two days ago, my service engine soon light comes on in the middle of a drive, car still runs fine, no sounds. the light stays on for about 2 days of driving then all the sudden shut off on the way home? why would the light shut off and not come back on anymore?

what year is your car? if its OBD2 go to autzone an have them scan it, its free. scan it and see what code it is

yeah thats what I was wondering. Didn't know if it was still gonna be an issue or not. guess I gotta check autozone and see if my local one does the free scans. my cars a '99 by the way.

It should be stored. As far as why it goes out here is how the light works. Something triggers it within so many 'drive cycles'; well the same drive cycles can make it go off. Make sense?

i think you may be right on the o2 sensor, exhaust is smellin a little rich and my mileage has suddenly gone to ****, but still havent got the car out to autozone

I had the same problem for months. Everybody kept saying it was the o2's or a vaccum leak. I replaced my gas cap and it fixed the problem. It was like $8 for the cap.

Scan it and see if any codes are stored, go from there.Auto Zone will scan you car for free.

get it scanned

sometimes cars will get a random freak code, i have gotten many of them before, like TPS readings, etc.

if it doesnt come back on, i wouldnt be worried

when mine has went on and off it has been the o2. I have a buddy that works a GM he scanned it and pulled up the code history which told him how many times my o2 sensor threw the code. Replaced the sensor and it has been on since

My light went off and no codes were stored. It came back on and I got the o2 malfunction. I would go with the gas cap first and see. It worked for me. I'm going 6 months now without that light coming on.
