Rough idle/ missing
I got a 96 Z28 (LT1), 4L60E (AUTO). The Z idles fine when shifted in park and neutral. When in reverse (stopped and moving) she feels like she is missing and idling rough. While in OD, D, 2, or 1 (while moving) she feels normal. When in OD, D, 2, or 1 (while stopped) she idles rough. Any idea what my problem could be?
Its a cheap fix to rule it out if it hasen't been changed in a long time.
Also, the same thing applies when the fuel injectors are getting dirty. 1 full can of Sea Foam in a full tank of gas should fix that. If you do the Sea Foam, do the fuel filter after you run that tank out.
If the FF change doesn't work you might want to go get an OBDII scan to see if your 02 sensors are working and switching properly. You will not get an SES code until they are really bad. Mine were almost 100% useless and the engine barely ran and I didn;'t get a code, but the scanner picked everything up. Needs to be the real OBDII scannerthat the dealerships use.
I changed the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, etc. The engine is idling great now. I didn't think of sevicing the engine so soon b/c I only put about 50 miles on the Z a week. Thanks for the info on the seafoam. Should have occured to me that the junk would come loose once cleaned.
I do have codes for O2 sensors (Bank 1/ Sensor 1, and Bank 2/ Sensor 2). Getting them changed now along with some other problems I stumbled on... cracked flywheel, broken motor mounts, etc. These are causing the vibration problems. I love the Z but that's what happens when you buy one used and the previous owner did "some work" to the engine.
Thanks for the info, this site is a great tool.
