Default '95 Formula Exhaust Question

I bought a new cat-back for my '95 Formula. The car is pretty high up on jack stands right now. I can't get the intermediate pipe free of the back of the car. I reeeeallly don't want to drop the rear out just to get the exhaust out. What's the deal?

I could just cut the old pipe out, since it is not being reused. But, I wanted to learn the tricks before jamming my new I-pipe up in there and trying to get it to fit.

Thanks for any help.

Lots of heat usually does the trick.

Perhaps I described the situation poorly.

The i-pipe is free of the muffler, and the muffler is out. It's just that I can't remove the i-pipe from the car, because I don't have the height/angle to pull it out the front. Basically, what I discovered, is that I need to disconnect the panhard on the PS, and whatever the bar is above it, too, in order to get the room needed to pull the pipe over the axle and out. There isn't enough room between the top of the panhard/bar above it and the body of the car to angle the pipe out over the axle. If I had a lift, this probably would not be an issue. Just making a simple job take longer and delay my car being back on the road

I cut mine it wouldn't come out even on lift. I wasn't gonna unbolt everything just to get stock catback out.

Well, I did end up cutting the old pipe out. But, I still need to unbolt the two bars so I can get the NEW i-pipe up in there.

It's kind of like trying to drop the fuel tank. You have to bring the rear axle down quite a way to get the exhaust to clear the axle housing.

Hey Dave!

So you kept the car? Did you do the T56 swap?

What kind of catback did you get? On most of the aftermarket units the I pipe is in two pieces, a straight piece and then an over the axle piece so you don't have to drop the rear. Or did you buy a stock catback? If that's the case you probably will have to drop the rear.

Nice to hear you still have the car. Let me know if I can help.
