So after driving for a few hours I stopped for gas and once I got back on the road and the car temp was at 220 and I immediately pulled off the road and the gauge kept rising. I replaced the t stat and nothing changed so I will be replacing the radiator. If anyone has any tips anything specific about changing a radiator I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Yeah, don't change the radiator. First, 220 isn't a bad thing. Make sure you know what your true temp is with a scanner.
How high did it rise?
Did the needle go into the red while driving?
Do you have something that went up in front of the condensor like a bag or newspaper?
There's a bunch of things to check before you even spend a dime. A radiator change will do nothing unless its cracked and squirting coolant out of it.
You need to bleed the air out of the system. There will be a bleeder to release the air out of the system somewhere ( I cant remember where exactly). Once you do this the car should run just fine.
