of course you could also just let it sit overnight and just start working on it in the morning...then you dont have to worry about the whole pressure thing...the hardest part is getting underneath the dam car ![The Jester](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_jest.gif)
and the filter is on the drivers side...just barely in front of the rear tire

Very true, you also should turn the key from off to the on position and wait about 15 seconds or so, and then back to off a few times to pressurize the fuel system again and to check for leaks once you replace the filter.

Well, the [correct] way is to depressurize the fuel at the schrader valve in the end of the fuel rail, but, your going to get some fuel in the engine bay when you do (rags or not)
You also depressurize the system as soon as you start to loosen the fittings on the filter. And fuel will no doubt spill on the ground. Hey, I like that better than in the engine bay.
Oh well, your going to spill some gas either way.
Someone posted to remove the gas cap .... Very good idea especially if the car is hot. That pressure in the tank (it's not much), but it will keep pouring gas out of the fuel filter tubing for a long time if you don't remove the gas cap first.
"HotRada"... Chill out a little

just park it for a couple of hours....open the gas cap for a couple of 15 minutes before you start in on it...get a couple of rages ready...and kick into it....no big deal...and if you do it over a greas spot in the drive way!!! you get a bonus driveway cleaning!!!

Also, pull the fuel pump fuse and start the car and let it run a few seconds and it will die on its own. This releases almost all of the fuel pressure. Worked for me about a week ago.
