Car died randomly while driving, Twice
Today I headed out for a whole lot of cruising since it was a great day out. I'll admit, I was beating on the car for the first half of the day. After driving about 10-20 miles of normal driving I met up with a friend of mine. We were stopped at a stop light, I wasn't revving it or anything. It was idling in drive, and all of the sudden it just shut off. We pushed it back into a gas station and it wouldn't start for 10 minutes. Topped the gas tank off just be sure (my gas gauge is broken, I guess a sender on the fuel pump is shot. This died a couple months ago.) It took 2 gallons of gas and stopped. The car started again after 10 minutes.
Then, about 30 minutes later, we were approaching a light and the car just shut off again as it was rolling. It wouldn't start for another 20 minutes. I noticed when I turned the car to "On" I didn't hear that noise that I usually hear, but I don't pay much attention to it either. I'm guessing that noise is my fuel pump. I have some lights being powered in the car that I have a fuse tap in the fusebox on the Fuel Pump fuse. I took the fuse tap out and put in a regular fuse and the car started, but it still ran funny on the way home.
Could I get any help? I have a Holley 255r Fuel pump that's been in the car since I bought it. Thanks for reading
As soon as it died, we would crank it, and you would just hear it cranking hard. No weird sounds, just like a normal crank but no turnover. I'm gonna go out in a few and see if the car will start. How do you do a fuel pressure test?
Anyway, that nut can give, can create some wiggle. That'll build up heat on the wires there and the terminals, causing all sorts of BS. Ask me how I know.
Check it out, and let us know!
