Default How do I replace the switch panel lights in my doors?

I was reading this section a few days ago, and noticed a thread asking about the switch panels lighting up. Well, I've had my car for 2 years, and never noticed, but the lights in the handles don't light up. I took it apart and got the light.

Sure enough, it was burned out. I got to looking at it, and couldn't figure out how to replace it. Does the bulb itself come out, or is it the entire little assembly to the wires?

its a twist lock set up. but it usually melts the plastic around the bulb

On my 94 and on my 2002 passenger side, I ended up twisting/braking the bulb, cleaning the pieces out with a jewelers screw driver and just putting the new one in as it should go in.

it is pretty easy. Its just in the 4 doors I have ever messed with, I broke 3 bulbs to get them out due to melting. Funny thing is after doing that, I never had them stick again. I've had to take the door panels off several times and they come off easy afterward.

Hmm... You might not be understanding me. I got the bulb out of the DOOR, but i can't get the ACTUAL bulb out. I took a picture with my phone, maybe this will help.
(Sorry for the dirty fingers. I just got done working with some bondo, lol.)

Yeah pull it out with pliers. You can wrap some tape around it if you want.

if it breaks take the pieces out with a pic or little screw driver. you should be able to put the new one in real easy.

Hey man, I did what you said, and it worked! Thanks a TON! I've had my car for two years, and never had the slightest idea about those. I owe you one.

you can actually do an LED mod for that light and the lights are actually useful at night! I did it a couple years ago and my red LED is still burning strong and 10x's brighter than the standard bulb.

Sorry I'm in late on the thread but a good alternative to the pliers method to getting the bulb out is the tape tab method. You can take a strip of duct tape and fold it over with the ends sticking to the bulb. That gives you a tape tab to pull on. (I've used pliers before and half of the time, I end up shattering the bulb.)

Thats a great idea!

Kind of reminds me of the way to take out a broken light bulb out of a drop cord or house fixture, remove the power source (turn off the switch or unplug it) and jab a carrot into the broken glass and simply twist the carrot.
