Default Knock of death

Alright, I bought this RX-7 for dirt cheap and the guy was like it has an LS-6 and a Camaro transmission and I was like alright let me take a look. The thing was put together jenky as hell. I have already fixed most of the big stuff, (bumper falling off, 4 cylinder battery, throttle cable simply not connected properly) however I am still left with a few even bigger problems, upon its second startup I had checked the oil and though dirty it was still within the crosshatchings and so I started it up. Well around 3 minutes go buy and bam. I hear clack, clack, clack. I immediately shut it down let it cool down check the oil and now its almost bone dry. There is nothing on the ground and so now I am thinking the worst. I am almost certain it's a spun bearing, more than likely a rod. I am hoping its not one of the mains but I highly doubt that. Sooooo long story I know but my question is, is there a way to diagnose a spun bearing without pulling it apart and/or risking further damage by starting her up again. If I have to pull it apart I will, just hoping there is some old trick one of the OG guys might have. If not, where can I get some cheap internals? I should say decently priced good internals.

thanks!

Oh yeah its of not to mention that it wasnt an extremely metallic clank or twing, it really was a clack clack sort of sound. Tonight if I get home before it gets dark I am going to switch coil/ignition wires around and see if that does anything.

drop the pan take a peek...depending on which conversion crossmember they used you might be able to get it off pretty easy. Then try turning the assembly by hand. pop the plugs to make your life easier. Id then go to the valve covers and take a peek at the rockers. If they arent on right, that would do it too. Good luck
