Default need help with infamous headlight motor fix

Hey guys, so my headlight motor starting grinding 2 weeks ago, got the new gear and put it in the correct way.

Well it is still grinding but in a different way, when the lights are in the up position the metal bar that is connected to the motor hits the hard plastic stopper *like its suppose to* but when put in the down position it will go past the upper plastic stopper and make it grind. I have no idea how to fix this problem and if anyone could chime in I would appreciate it!

I may be wrong, but you may be the victim of a stripped worm gear. Those metal gears will eat up that worm gear inside that meshes with the plastic/metal round gear. If the metal gear doesn;t fit perfectly with the worm gear, it'll eat the worm gear up, then you need a new motor.

i checked that piece, you are talking about the rectangular piece that is supposed to be slid in and bolted on correct? It is not stripped, at least not that I have noticed, I will check again to make sure...i can take this thing out in 5 minutes now :'(

Well, the worm gear is what drives the round gear. Its what is attached to the motor. Make sure that worm gear is not stripped.

The worm gear is the teeth cut on the shaft that sticks out of the motor( the rectangular part). If they are damaged you have no choice but to buy a new motor. But Brent Franker makes a big deal out of making sure the tabs that hold the motor to the gearbax are tight or the motor droops and the worm doesn't contact the metal geart properly and may damage the new gear he just sold you.If the motor wobbles on the gearbox you need to use a punch and hammer the tabs tighter.Check his website he has some pretty good pictures of this.
