Default Window Auto Roll-Down Not Working! Help!

I have a 2000 Camaro Z28 LS1. i replaced both the driver and passenger window motors the other day and now my drivers side automatic roll down doesnt work. i dont understand why it stopped working just because i replaced the motor but it stopped immediately after i replaced it. also i no longer hear that clicking under the stereo like i used to hear when the auto roll down engaged. anybody had this problem before? anybody have any clue what happened and/or how to fix it? thank guys!!!

Either the window switch is dirty or the relay needs to be replaced.

Well, I'm actually not sure, but if you said you heard it clicking under the raido before, I'd start there.

The auto-down module (relay) is what controls the feature and is the same box that makes the clicking sound behind the dash. It sits in a black plastic pocket on the top driver's side of of the center tunnel.

If your switch still operates the window, its fine.

If I'm not mistaken, that is a 4-position switch. UP, DOWN, AUTO-DOWN, & OFF. So if the AUTO-DOWN contact is dirty/compromised, it will not even send a signal to the relay.

Its a three position switch. "up", "off", and "down". I don't have the wiring in front of me now, but I do recall that the driver's side switch is only hooked up to the express down module, which is then strung to the motor.

My '00 T/A sat over the winter and it's still in storage... can't really remember exactly - I roll the windows down once every summer and they stay down all summer long in the garage.

But if I do remember correctly, if you just feather the down button and let off, the window stops going down. If you give it a little more force, it then activates the auto-down. Am I mistaken?

quick tap = auto down sustained tap = regular down

The instructions are in the owners manual with more info.

Does the relay/box control just the auto roll down? Or the window roll down opperation also?

The wiring for the switch and the window motor goes through the box. My interpretation of the schematics is that the wiring from the switch to the motor is essentially intact on one "side" of the box. The other "side" senses what is going on with the switch and then sends the auto-down signal based on that input. (Like having two people operate two separate switches in parallel for one light bulb. Either one can turn it on/off indpendently. In this case, the auto-down "switch" could just be bad and/or not properly sensing what is going on in the other side.)

So if the unit goes bad, it will effect just the outo down part.

Good to know.

I believe so, yes - but I've never opened the thing up.

aight fellas i finally figured it out i checked the relay, it was fine. i replaced the switch with a brand spanking new one, not like the other before (used), and "viola!" it works. just turns out i had a bad switch and also my power mirrors work by replacing the switch assembly with a brand new one. i thought both of my motors were bad on mirrors. turns out that was the entire switch this whole time. its always the smallest part and it takes this much time and effort to figure the dam thing out. THANKS BIG TIME GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!
