Very odd problem

Very odd problem Im sure it has had to have happened to a couple of you but i feel its a not so common problem. It the gauge cluster on my 4th gen ls1, as you all probably know, there is a light that says security. Problem is ATLEAST once a day for about the last month or so when i go to start the car it wont start and the security light will stay on for about 3 mintutes and will clear and then the car will start. Its a major inconvience on your daily, especially now that its hot. Yesterday i went to start it and now the light just blinks and wont start at all. My car is now immobile and im stuck carless. You guys think that with an OBD II scanner ill just believe to clear the code or what else should i do? Thanks in advance.
that's called VATS i think, it has to do with the resistor in your key, which is a security feature. you can only start the car with your key having the correct resistor out of 7 others or something like that, when the computer sees the wrong resistor the security system disables starting the car for 3 minutes.
your problem is either or both of the following, the resistor on the key is worn or dirty and not making good contact, or the receiver inside the steering column is dirty or worn. Try using some fine emery paper and cleaning the metal contact on the resistor on your key, or use a spare key if you have it. and if you have crap inside the ignition switch you might try spraying some electronic cleaner or compressed air in there, it may help but i wouldn't get your hopes up.
there might be a way to disable the VATS, try posting or searching in the computer/tuning forum. And just try a search in here on VATS
