Neither have made that big of difference. It never gets too cold here in Texas.
Must just be a coincidence. If you have a leak, it will keep leaking regardless of oil viscocity. 10W-40 isn't any less liquid than 10W-30, if one leaks the other will too

Yep, mechanical failure does not get fixed by changing oil. Masking issues does not fix them.

since when were gaskets mechanical? mine just sit there... some oils ARE more harsh on gaskets and more prone to leak, and simply changing brands can make one start leaking, even of the same viscosity. this was alot worse in the old days when different oils used a completely different base, some would make your car leak like a sieve and other would not

LS1's with their metal gaskets with rubber seals, are not like the old school seals, gaskets, rubber (no metal substrate), cork, RTV etc. If you are leaking oil, you are leaking oil, fix the problem.

I consider a mechanical part a non-electrical part of the engine, call it what you want. I didn't say a moving part.

i know what the gasket is made of, and if you have an oil leak, you have an oil leak, wow i think that goes without saying no matter what the gasket material is

Define "Mildly Built."

If the internals are stock, 5w or 10w-30 is standard.

If you've got machined internals then go with what your machinist or engine builder is telling you to run in their engine.

Coincidence or not, hasn't leaked in about 3 weeks. So I'm not going to rip off an oil pan to fix it if it ain't leaking lol...
