VATS key

If I get a non chipped key, will it at least turn the lock cylinder or does the resistor unlock it?

I think it does (I've not tried it tho). Anyway, I'm just posting to ask: why not just get one? They are not really that much money on eBay...

It should turn the lock cylinder, the "chip" just tells the pcm to run the fuel pump. So it shouldnt start, it thinks its being stolen, but it will unlock the steering column so you can turn the wheels.

The steering column lock is purely mechanical.

ok, I had a normal key made with the intent of putting in switch and keeping it as an emergency key stashed in the car, bu the one they made wouldn't even turn the lock.

bad key - what's the point of having a non-chipped key as an emergency key if it won't start the car? (You could turn the cylinder, but it won't fire unless you disable the VATS.)

how do you disable the vats? when i first bought my car the key was just a plain key and it started but the security light stayed on. i went to a dealer and had them cut me a key and then with that key the light went off. i never got a key fob either. i also had to get one of those from a dealer. im thinking the car was repod?
