Default replacing radiator question.

i have a 98 t/a a4. im going to replace the radiator this afternoon, but wanted to get something figured out first. when i disconnect the tranny cooler lines, ho much fluid should i expect to stay in the radiator, and come out of the lines? also after i button everything up, can i start the car with low tranny fluid if i dont drive it, just to check the level?

Estimate how much came out, add back a bit less, and then start it and check the level. You want to get it close if possible, but not overshoot. So add back like the minimum amount you feel comfortable with. Or, since you should be using a catch pan, you can measure what you lose and add back about that much. (If you do that, still check the level after anyway)

I don't think it's going to kill you if you run it in park and check the level before adding it back, but why do it? Even if it only causes slight wear, there are better ways.
