Help loud noise
I was just drag racing my 98 SS 6 speed and i took off fine. Chirped 2nd and 3rd gear then when I hit 4th gear I let out the clutch and there was a loud noise which seemed to come from the rear end and it violently jerked the car at around 85-90mph so I let off. I'm worried about this and there are no leaks or anything coming the car. The car still drives perfectly fine on the road. This only happened 2 out of the 4 times I raced. My mods are LS6 intake, !EGR, Lid, Custom ram air, cutout, flowmaster catback, all free mods. Does anyone know what could be wrong with my car? Slipping clutch? Any help will be appriciated.
Thanks

I would pull the cover off the rear end and inspect the teeth on the ring gear and pinion. I dont know how many gear sets i have seen break on a 10 bolt. I drove my car for another 6 months with this problem until i changed the fluid and a tooth was missing off the pinion. Its an easy and cheap check.

What kind of tires were you using to drag race with? If you were using anything that hooks well like any sticky tire or even a good Drag radial I would guess ring and pinion as well. Stock 10 bolt takes a beating especially in an aggressively driven M6 car.

i was racing with Zexius 275/40/17 street tires and they don't hook for **** i spin them all though first launching at 2000rpm at 25psi.

Well if you were spinning then its more than likely not the rear end. They are weak but tires spinning will not break them. I would check the exhaust like already mentioned, maybe its banging into the bottom somehwere.

From my experience clutches will not cause noise, they just slip and you will often turn into a one tire fire at the track where only one tire will spin. Its possible I guess but I don't think likely. Pull the diff cover and have a look, see if anything looks awry.
