Default Power Loss

I was on my way to work this morning and i stepped on it to get on the highway. i was in third gear climbing up to around 5000 or so and then it felt like it quit pulling. I noticed this a few days ago as well in third gear. If i get on it in first it pulls hard all the way to 6100 and my shift light comes on. I am wondering if this could be a fuel issue.

Could be the fuel filter, has it ever been replaced? If you run your car down to Empty alot, then alot of contaminants can get sucked up to that filter and clog it faster. But thats just one possibility.

Default Update

When i got home today i tested my fuel pressure with the ignition on and engine on 38 with the vacuum line off 42. Now this is where it gets weird. I put the cap back on schrader on the fuel line and tried to crank it. It started but idled real low and then died. It wouldnt crank after that at all. I put the fuel pressure tester back on it and i have no pressure at all. When i turn the ignition on i hear the fuel pump click but i don’t hear it whine like it used to for a second. Anyone have any ideas? I am thinking it is my fuel pump.

Make damn sure its the punmp first.

BUt there's no reason NOT to go with the Racetronix set-up. I'm pretty certain its less $$$ than a new OEM replacment...and its a badass system. Mine is 7 years old and still rockin and rollin.

I;'m just saying make sure its not a dirty filter or dirty/leaky/failing fuel injectors or a clogged line.

I don't think those readings you got are low. Do you know what the manuals say is normal pressure readings?

Your issue points towards imporperly working 02 sensor(s) also. Get a scan at the dealership to see if the 02 sensors are switching properly.

I wouldn't rush into a fuel pump. If you were at WOT when you were accelerating it could be a simple dirty MAF. Bad spark plug wires too. OR....if a spark plug wire is touching an exhaust manifold pipe you will get arcing while under hard acceleration and it will lose power, but it will not be apparent at low rpms or at idle.

all easy stuff to check and rule out.

Are you hearing the fuel pump buzz for a couple seconds when you turn the key "on"?

If not, then you probably do have a failing pump. If you do hear it and it sounds strong, you could have a blockage somewhere.

It only makes a noise for like 1-2 seconds, then its 100% silent. I'm just describing it as a 1-2 second buzzing sound.

They won't keep making noise.

Thats not good. If you checked it with a pressure tester I guess thats about all you can do.

Default Another Update

I went out today when i got home and it starts up now. I put the fuel pressure tester back on it and with the ignition on and engine off i get 20. When i bled the pressure tester down before removing it and it wont start now. No fuel pressure at all now. If you bleed down the fuel rail how long should it take to prime it?

does it at least crank over but just not fire. and did you try turning the key on and off but not cranking the engine about 2 or 3 times before you go to crank it over?

Yes it cranks over it just won't start up. I have tried turning the key in the on position at least 20 times.

How old is your key?

Maybe you wore it out and the resistor ain't working and something is killing the security system.

If you have a spare key, try it.
