Default Low Coolant Light, Warm Engine, Full Coolant

I'm a little unsure of the problem. The light only seems to come on once the engine gets hot. I've checked the coolant cold and warm and it seems to be full. This just started after a full exhaust install.

Everything is fine. Your low coolant sensor is crapping out. Unplug it or get a new one....thats your only choices really. Cleaning it is a joke and really never works.

Its under your radiator cap on the back of the radiator. Its the square thing.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if there was a problem with my coolant fluid or something. I'll be sure to remove the sensor.

Don't remove the snesor....just uplug the plug that connects to it. If you remove the sensor, coolant will spill out.

I know the 98-99 cars had this prob and was a warranty fix for me way back when I had a 99, so its a common prob.

unplugging it is a ghetto "fix".
it should work correctly.
you may have contamination from PS cooler leak.
do a search.
fix it right.

Well I'll be damned. I was just gonna make a new thread on the same thing. I'm gonna try the things you guys suggested. Probably just replace the sensor. Bye the way I have a 98 also.

Unplugging is NOT a "fix" dude. Its for those who don't have the cash or time to buy a new one BUT they don't want to stare at a light on the dash.

And they should NOT work correctly when they fail. Parts don't last forever. People without factory power steering fluid "heaters" still get this low coolant light that comes on with crystal clear clean coolant fluid.

Exactly, unplugging it doesn't mean it's not right.

It's right. It has ******* coolant! Just the stupid sensor is stupid and says you don't have.

By that logic, no one should remove their EGR or AIR systems... A code comes up right, a code saying something is not working right? Then it gets deleted with a tune? Is that a ghetto fix?

Same thing here... You're "deleting" the ability of your car to measure coolant level, which is not needed. You're just doing it physically.

I guess the skip-shift delete is also a ghetto fix?

Anyways, if you REALLY have a hard-on for the light to come on in the situations where your coolant is low, DO NOT buy the GM sensor... You will get raped and it will go bad very soon again anyway... Buy one from autozone that even if it lasts the same period of time, at least it was only $15.

My 0.02

I have a '99 with this bullshit feature.

I'm just saying that unplugging the sensor to get the light to go out could be hiding another real problem that will not go away, and will eventually get worse. Possibly causing a very big problem later. Find out what caused the problem to begin with. Quite possibly it could be a PS cooler leak into the coolant. If thats the case, it will get worse and can cause a bigger problem. Simply telling someone to unplug the sensor and not telling them to look for the possible cause is very bad advice.

Could someone post a pic of the sensor so I know what I am looking for when I go to replace it?

straight down below the radiator cap. small box with a wire clip. pull the wire clip and the sensor pulls right out. do a search for PS cooler leak and test for the leak with a radiator pressure tester (free loan from autozone).

fix the problem, don't hide it.

He never said the coolant had black **** floating around in it.

Well, lets put that to rest right now.

"Eternity",

Look at the attached pics, do you have that metal pipe that is spliced into the upper radiator hose?

If you do get rid of that royal piece of **** and put an aftermarket cooler on there.

That GM factory crap cooler....is really a power steering cooler "HEATER".

If you do have it, and your coolant doesn't have little black grimy chunks floating around in it, its not leaking. For the PS fluid to kill your low coolant sensor, it has to be leaking ALOT. Definitely enough to where you will see it and it will be stuck under your radiator cap in the spring. It happened to me. I got rid of that piece of ****.

I really did not mean for this to cause an argument. I just got back from driving around a little bit so I will check later if my coolant has any black gunk in it that I did not see the first time. I'll check for the metal tube as well.
