Default Vacuum/charge a/c system

I just wanted to know what you guys think it should cost to vacuum/charge a/c system. I called up a bunch of shops and they all want around 125$, even the dealership. Should I pay them or get a pump and do it myself? I got a used line that will hopefully hold up for a while, but if it does bust, I have a new one coming in the mail in a couple weeks. Pump or let them do it? that is the question.

You won't buy a decent pump that's that cheap. Not out of line at all for them to be charging that.

Autozone will "rent" one to you.
Its free just leave a deposit.
Its best to buy your A/C supplies there so they can continue this.

Find a shop that installs customer parts (i.e. not their own). Those shops are generally the cheapest. The vaccuum is usually around 1/2-1 hour of labor (~$80 or less), and you can charge it yourself with a can or two of freon + a fill hose with an inline pressure tester (~$30-$40). If $125 is the total price they're quoting, it's only a little bit high.

I can 100% guarantee you that the compressor-powered pump you're talking about won't work. The pump you'll need is a more powerful dual-stage 3-5CFM pump, costing well over $100 (even at Harbor Freight).

There's a great A/C shop here that vacuums the system, then charges it for $70.00. If I were you, have someone vacuum it for you, then go buy a 3 oz can of oil and two cans of 134 and put it in yourself in 5 minutes.

BTW, my line that I clamped is holding great. But I took that single clamp off and put two flat clamps on. Pics.
