Engine TEMP Sensor
I just put on a "new" / re-man alternator from Autozone and found it to be bad about 2 days later when I took my car out for a drive. Long story short I was under the car getting ready to remove the unit when I grounded out the power wire. (dumb mistake) I got the new unit in in 30min and started the car up with a jump and noticed that my temp reading was pegged off the left side. I guess my question is if there is a fuse that controls the dial? If that's the case which one is it? I briefly took a look and didn't find what i was looking for.

When my temp sensor snapped off when I was putting it back in, I had to wait a couple days for my new one. My 1998 wouldn't run without it. The engine wouldn't stay running and if I pedaled it it was misfiring and choking like crazy. I waited for the new sensor, put it in and it was perfect.
Don;t know about 2002's.

Yes the car currently runs fine. It is however in default mode, with the check engine light on. I will be leaving in the next 30 min to see if I can get a new sensor and get my codes pulled.

Got the codes pulled and sure enough there was a high voltage reading code found on the coolant circuit. I picked up a new sensor and already have it installed however the temp comes on for about 5 seconds with startup and falls back to zero. What is causing this to happen?

Its a brass fitting. Unplug the connector and take it out. Be careful not to crank the new one down too much, they can shear off. Not a big deal if it does, but then you have to get the broken piece out and buy a new sensor. I broke one once and tapped a pointy philips head into it and turned right out. If it breaks.

Did it come with a metal gasket? or is it supposed to use one, the old one on a 98 im working on has 2 metal gaskets. Is it supposed to have any gaskets at all between the sensor and head?
