I'd drain the gas tank, stuff is probably bad and might have water in it. I guess he'll have to do that anyways since he's replacing the fuel pump. Replace the fuel filter as well.

I'd also do a seafoam treatment on it, then change the plugs and wires. Clean the throttle body and MAF, change air filter, all the regular tune up stuff.

Although at the bare minumum, I would change the oil and coolant along with draining the gas.

Spray a can of Boeshield all over the entire engine and engine bay. Everything.

Did your buddy put fuel stabilizer in the tank before it was stored? If not, the gas may have gone bad and gummed up the entire fuel system.

Check all the brake lines, they go bad after sitting for that long a period then get pressure built on them again.

Yes, check that any critters didn't eat any wires etc... and nothing built a nest in the air box.
