Default Shift Boot?

So the clips are broken on my shift boot. I've been thinking of a glue or sealant of some sort to get it back on the center counsel. Would some RTV work? Or just some crazy glue?

I had the same problem and fixed it perfectly. You just need ABS (pipe) cement. (The plastic is ABS.) Mine broke at a bend in the plastic, so I reinforced the weld with a piece of paper clip and we're still going strong.

The cement can be had in the plumbing department of some hardware stores or from a plumbing supply. (Its cheap also!) Its sold right by the PVC cement and pipe primers. In the midwest, I've seen the stuff at Ace, Menard's, and at industrial plumbing/HVAC/MRO stores.

BTW - Crazy glue or other adhesives will not stick to the ABS. (But the ABS Cement should give you a partial weld, which will increase in strength over 1 week's time.) http://www.acehardwareoutlet.com/(i3...aspx?SKU=44055

If you use the ABS cement, you'll want to let it dry for at least 2 days before installing. (so it can build up strength in the weld)

I'm pretty sure you can buy a brand new replacement plastic ring from a GM dealership. I bought one a few years ago while a friend was working at one. Unfortunately, I don't have the part#.

They can still be had, but you have to by the whole boot. (The ring is loosely glued to the pleather.)

I'm sure I bought the ring by itself. I'm sure because I know I don't have an extra shift boot hanging around. Is it possible they stopped selling it this way?

P/N 10306417. GM shows it only as an assembly. $40-75 depending on the dealer.

I normally buy new parts when trim brakes, except for this one. The ring isn't designed well, so I went with the $3 glue and reinforced the problem point. I figured that if I put in a new ring, it would just break again.
