A/C Pulley
Last night I drove through a deep puddle that was hard to see. At first all my gauges dropped and my check gauges light came on. I pulled over immediately and turned the car off. After a minute I tried to start it and everthing was fine. Well a couple minutes later I started to smell a burning smell. I was near where i was going so when i got there I opened the hood and saw my A/C pulley was red hot. It only gets this way when I have my A/C or defrost on. Could water have gotten into the pulley and mess up the bearings enough to where the pulley has so much friction it gets red hot?

Well it still blows out ice cold air for the minute I have the a/c on, that's why I didn't think it was the compressor. If the compressor was bad, would it really make the pulley get red hot? Everything is still spinning like usual. I also forgot to say there's a metallic sound when the car is running.
Edit: Forgot to add another thing. It was my a/c clutch pulley that was red hot. Sorry

I was just told my another LSx member that if the compressor needs a recharge it can make the A/C clutch slip and get really hot. How would water effect the compressor?

Here's my guess:
Even when it's cooling, a compressor is very hot. The deep puddle cooled it very quickly, and changed the shape of the pulley/clutch/case.
Now the clutch is slipping like crazy causing the heat as well as the metallic noise.
You might get away with a clutch only, but I would replace the whole compressor due to the trauma it has suffered.

I can't find anywhere that sells just the clutch. I went ahead and bought a used compressor and clutch off a member on the site. At least I haven't had to use the a/c or defrost this week haha.
