Ok let me show you a tool that will save you many troubles down the road. I got mine at Autozone. This thing works. As you turn left it tightens around the filter turning it off. I had LT's too and it took me four hours to change the oil the first time because it was on there to tight. Glad to hear you got it off but here is a picture of the tool I'm talking about. Its well worth your money.

Have you got that mess off yet?

It looks like some needle nose or vise grips, maybe a hammer and a lot of patience should get that off.

For future reference, tear off all the rest of the tin with a pair of vise grips, then take a screwdriver and a hammer to one of the small holes and tap it around until it comes off.
