Default Air conditioning compressor noise

I've noticed when running my AC or defrost that I hear a ticking noise. I think it has to be coming from the compressor but not 100% sure. Has anybody had this issue before? Car is a 2000 Z28

I did a search but didn't find anything with definite answers.

Thanks for any help.

Your compressor cycles during AC or defrost, so it's probably related to something on that system.

I would check the belt tensioner first since it's seperate for AC. Might also be the comp clutch or bearing, or worst of all the comp itself.

If you could post a vid so I can compare sounds that would be great.

Anybody got any links to a compressor install thread?
Thanks

Hmm, thanks for the video. Mine more of a tick....tick...tick sounds though. I'd put up a vid but the car is really ripped apart right now. Maybe I'm lucky and will just find something wrong with the clutch instead of the whole compressor. I'll see what I can find out on it this weekend.

Thanks

Usually any noise from the compressor is death. Either bearing or internal.

My AC compressor got replaced under warranty about 5 years into it. Luckily I had the extended warranty!

Ten years in....think I'm out of luck?

I checked it out again and don't see anything wrong with the clutch. I'm just going to buy a new compressor. Where is the best place/price to get one?

Thanks guys.

if you physically stare at it and you can see it is cycleing -(engageing and disengageing) it may be something as simple as a low charge on the system, it does not always mean it is going to break. Easy check is to put a set of manifold gauges on and read the pressures. if they are low it will cycle the compressor very quickly.

g/l.

True, always start with your pressure readings.
