Alternator & U.D. crank pulley question.
I was driving home today when my voltage dropped to 11. Then it came back to 14 for a minute, and then back to 11. Then I smelled somthing burning. Its probibly the alt. I have a fairly new optima battery also. I have an SLP UD crank pulley. Ever since I installed it, the voltage would jump around from 12 to 15 v. Sometimes at 1st start, it would be at like 16 v & then come down.
Do you think the UD pulley made the alt. crap out early? Or was it just the alt's time to go? alt is 8 years old btw.

I would say that an already weak and dying alternater. Probably would have lasted a little longer without the pully, but my guess would be that it was on its way out anyway.
