Default rear wheel grinding noise

Hi all,

I have a low-level grinding noise coming from the rear wheels that is heard easily at low speeds. I recently replaced my rear axel bearings, but the noise is still there. The noise is heard when backing up and driving forward. Is it possible the funky E-brake is rubbing the inside of my rotors? I used to always use the hand brake when parking, but I've stopped using it to see if it makes a difference...so far it hasn't.

Thanks,
2002 Firebird factory axel with lsd

+1 i have this exact problem. can you hear your rubbing sound when the windows are rolled down. I cant, only when im coasting at low level speeds. didnt think of my e-brake rubbing the rotor but thats a damn good assumption b/c thats exactly what it sounds like something rubbing the rotor and i use my e-brake when parking ALL the time. i've read in other threads it could be a possible pinion bearing going out also.

I have found many broken e-brake shoe's - hopefully that is what you got as it is an easy fix.

Normally a bad pinion or pinion bearing noise will change with amount of load being applied. for example a typical worn or bad pinoin bearing will cause a type of wine noise which will change in pitch whether you apply power or remove it. play with it a little and get back to use or just pull the rotors and look at the e-brake shoe for damage.

g/l.
