Default R&R power steering pump

I have a whine from the front of the motor that comes and goes. It starts whenever the engine is under a heavy load (drag racing) and only stops when the motor sits overnight. It sounds like a supercharger and is RPM dependent. I'm now thinking it's the PS pump.

My car is an '02 with the chitty PS cooler in the radiator hose. How do I remove the PS pulley to get at the pump bolts? The radiator hose runs just in front of the center of the pulley and there is no play to be able to push it up or down. Anyone got a good write up/pics?

I rented a puller from autozone when I got the pump. The problem is clearance between the pully and the PS cooler. The puller is 6" deep and I only have 3" of space between the pully and the radiator hose.

Do I have the wrong puller?

From what I've read/checked, I have the right puller. I can even see how it will work if I remove the radiator hose and fan shroud. Please someone share your wisdom on how to remove this pulley without removing the fans.

i just referenced the factory manual......and it did not say much more than use the GM tool.........guess the GM tool is shorter and fan removal is not needed???

Did this today, make sure you get it on the pulley really good or it may slip off. You need to remove the radiator hose, and air intake with the bellow, thats all, you should be able to get to everything with that out of the way. I didnt need to remove the fan.

Ding Ding Ding... We have a winner!

Thanks for the tip. Once I gave in and pulled the radiator hose the job was easy. For some reason I have an aversion to opening the coolant syayem if I don't have to.
