Default Wet trunk area?

Lately, I've noticed that the carpet in trunk area by the t-top holders is wet from time to time. I cannot replicate the problem with a hose, to see if the hatch is leaking. None of the carpet 5"-6" above the bottom of the trunk ever gets wet, so it make me think that water is not dripping in from the hatch. I have noticed that GM has a TSB about this, but the local dealerships wont help me out unless I pay them to fix it. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and what it took to get it fixed. I've also heard it is a common problem among 98-99 F-bodies. Thanks for any help!

I keep trying to sneek into the mechanic's area at the dealerships and get one of them to look up the TSB fix for the problem, but they insist I must pay the dealership to fix the problem. I don't have a warranty, and I don't feel like buying a whole lot of vasoline either. I was just seeing if anyone else has had this problem fixed before. C'mon guys.... someone has to know???

Same **** happened to me...The back window seal leaked because of my subs. The car sat at the shop for a week while they tried to figure out why. They put the car under this shower test thing and it wouldn't leak. Dont let them tell you its not leaking. Just have them re-seal the rear window....When this happened to me it cost me 2 $800 amps cause the rain water fried them...Good Luck.

I imagine it is comming from the bottom up. More than likely you have a whole under the carpet and when you drive in the rain and water gets splashed on the under side and seaps into the carpet through there. Thats the only thing I can think of happening if it isn't comming in from the top.

The spare tire well has a whole in the bottom so the truck floor probably does too.

This is what I do to find wind/water leaks, put talcum or baby powder on suspect wheather seal. Close door/hatch & dowse car with water good , let stand for 5-10 minutes . Then carfully open & check the powder on seal,it will show up by displacing powder. Then adjust/or replace accordingly. Hope it helps!

I just noticed it last night on my '98. Popped the trunk to get some stuff out, carpet at the bottom was wet.

No other carpet was wet. The wheelwells (behind the wheels) were dry, carpet on the hump was dry. It was just the trunk.

I pulled the carpet out, the 2 body plugs are still in place. It has rained a lot here recently, but I don't know if it's coming from above or below.

Post back if you find something.

same thing over here...

It happened to me about 1 month ago... i took the trunk apart.. under the carpets there are like 2 draining plugs.. i secured them put silicone around then and i think it might have taken care of the problem.. it rained once already and nothing got wet..

i also had water in the rear seats' driver side carpet..

Well, after this last storm that blew through Texas. It left a standing inch of water in the bottom of the trunk. Nothing was draining, so it eliminates holes in the bottom. Yet, none of the side carpet or the trunk cover was wet.... Weird? I'm gonna check around the tail light mounting screws to see if its leaking there and running down the inside. But then the side carpet should be wet too??? Spare tire and cd changer shelf remain dry. The dealership wants $70 to test for leaks, then charge for any repairs....

Its the seal around the window....This problem was on a GM bulletin when I had mine fixed. Any dealership should be aware of this and take care of it for you.
