I had something similar happen about 7 years ago to a '96 v6 Camaro I had. I don't remember exactly what it was doing but my gauge cluster would not turn on and I think my tail lights were acting up, but only when I turned my lights on. I didn't get any blown fuses though. I didn't know any better then, so I took it to the dealership.
They said it was the headlight switch. They said that is all they had to replace and it worked good since then.

nimrod.sixty9 I have the same issue with my car blowing the fuse constantly and losing my speedo/dash/steering wheel control lights. Do you have an aftermarket radio?

I replaced the entire IP Dimmer switch assembly. Same issue

Just to let you know, I dont have steering wheel controls. I just think the wireing is there. But yes I do have an aftermarket stereo. One of those Jensen fold out touchscreens. My issue came about 3 or so weeks after installing the radio.

Congrats!

Wish mine was that easy. Were you blowing any fuses? My brake light works fine...

So are we thinking its inside the radio itself or did we somehow wireup something wrong?

Is yours that UV10 Jensen model? Looking at the diagrams, I cant see anything in the radio circuit that would short out the fuses on the light circuit. Are you loosing fuses too?

I've got a second ground wire. Just like a batt cable. Runnig from the tower to the alt braket. I take it didn't blow your fuses?

I had to add the wire due to the flickering headlight issue.

Funny, I had started thinking my issue was the radio as well. The difference from all of you guys is that I put my radio in about 3 years ago...Alpine CDA-9857...no touch screen...but the car is stored away for the winter so I cant get to mine to check the theory. Please post up your findings.

Still havent been able to take it out. No time

I found out another thing that is shorted or part of the same circuit:

I had the heater on on the way to the store. When I got back in and turned on the car I didnt realize that the blower wasnt working. I hit a reflector (center road reflector) and it popped on! So something is loose and shorted...

I had a similar problem, installed an after market radio, radio worked great, turn the head lights on,and the dash lights went out..unhooked the radio, checked the fuses and all were good.tried turning the head lights on again, lights came on but no dash lights..somehow the wiring to the radio blew the head light switch..I bought a new head light switch, put back in the factory radio and everything works like it should..To me it sounds like you blew the head light switch. If you need to buy one,I have 2 with the fog light switchs, both came from cars that I just parted out..30.00 each, shipped.

Thanks but I already replaced mine. My fuses die the second I turn on the headlights. So it has to be a part of that circuit.

FIXED!

For some reason my wires to the blower are spliced. And they were not covered.

Looks like it was just a couple of strands touching just enough to short out the lights but not totally kill the blower. I have a purple and black wire going to the red and black wires of the blower, wtf?

Sorry I meant the AC blower. Under pass side dash.

Not saying thats going to be somebodies problem, but it does show that there are many circuits that can mess up the lights.
