Exclamation Help! Car starting probs!

Hey guys,

My car started fine this morning but after parking the car for about an hour and getting back to start it was a big hassle.

It will not turn over, just makes a 'click' sound. After trying for a few times, it BARELY turned over and I got it to start. Happened again as well.

Is is the starter? What should I be looking for?

Thanks for the help!

First of all does your battery have enough power the crank the starter?

My guess too - check battery voltage, cables and/or have it load tested. Sometimes you get rapid clicks, sometimes clicks once and is completely dead.

Nah, my voltage gauge was reading steady at 12-13volts..... Usually with a dying battery I didnt think that would be the case? The battery isnt that old either...

Oh and I had thought that too and had my buddy jump me off with some cables which did NOTHING for the car. It would still only click...

Start by taking your starter to a auto parts store and get it tested. Also check all your fuses..

Old thread but; if your battery is good (check voltage on the dash, or does your horn blow, lights come on, and wipers all work) and the car still won't whirl over, its the starter.

If you had the starter checked and it tested fine....then I would check the ground wire from the selonoid and check all ground wires....I had intermittent starting problems and I couldnt figure out why....found out the ground wire at the starter selonoid was rusty...cleaned it up and fixed the problem....hope this helps.

Solved after lunch today , it was a bad connection between the battery and the side post wire holder , changed it and then tested the starter hanging with it grounded to the frame with a jumper and it worked , so crossed fingers and worked, bougbht a new bettery but the other was old , o and the new battery much higher voltage used to be around 13.2 now 14.2
